Do You remember
I met a gentleman today. After pleasantries and small talk about the weather and how it has changed from very cold to mildly warm.
He mentioned something that I thought was profound. “Mimi Niko ministry.” He is doing whatever he does as unto the Lord.
This for real left me perplexed.
How many of you remember who used to trim the live fence in your school days?
Do you remember the men and women who made the school tidy?
I bet none of you has the slightest memory of a single individual who ensured students ate a hot meal.
This man works in a school which is also a children’s home says he rarely gets time to rest.
He wakes up very early in the morning to prepare breakfast. As the kids are eating and drinking, he sets forth to plan what shall be taken for lunch.
When the bell rings at 12:45pm pupils run to the DH, eat then dump the dishes at a designated area.
"Some," he says "always complain." As I used to when I felt like the cook was unfair to me that particular day of “wali kwa nyama” rice and beaf stew or my favorite Githeri. There is no one who can prepare githeri like my high school days.
Before the plates and spoons drip the last drop of water after being washed the pupils are back again in the DH for a snack before preps.
The porridge is apparently best for none save for very few pupils complain due to the fact that their potions were not enough.
This man says, “when the pupils are taking their snack supper is halfway done.
At 7:30pm the pupils are back again in the DH. To indulge in what has been prepared for them.
Every single person in the compound eats the supper as is. If one complains the neighbors seated on either side would gladly grab the plate and help themselves.
This man says the earliest he goes to lay his head down to rest is 11:00 pm in the night. This cycle goes on every single day for 10 months.
The best time he gets to spend and enjoy life with his family is from mid-November to the second day of January.
On 3rd January the cycle begins. He says he has done it for the last eleven years and a total of thirteen years in the same “ministry” as he calls it.
He spent two years in apprenticeship, learning from another who had done it for more than twenty years.
If this is not a calling from God Himself, I don’t really know what is.
The question is do you remember any none-teaching staff back in your high school days?
